Portuguese Team Builds World’s Largest LEGO City
Recently, a creative piece of good news has come from Lourinhã, Portugal — the local team “Brickopolis Lourinhã” has successfully won the Guinness World Record certification for the “Largest 3D LEGO Model” with a giant LEGO city model. After on-site verification by Guinness adjudicators, the certificate was officially awarded to the project, marking the birth of this new world record.

Named “Brickopolis Lourinhã,” this LEGO city covers an area of 70.614 square meters, breaking the previous record held by China in 2024 by a significant 23 square meters. The entire model is built with over 230,000 LEGO bricks and features more than 1,200 mini figurines, vividly recreating multiple iconic scenes and historical moments of Portugal. From Lourinhã’s local Dinosaur Park and Nazaré’s giant waves to Aveiro’s traditional coastal cottages, medieval-style streets, and even Lisbon’s airport from the 1950s and the eastern district of Lisbon before the 1998 World Expo, it is full of regional cultural characteristics.
According to Tiago Marques, the project leader, the birth of this LEGO city is the result of the efforts of a 25-person team. It took 9 months to complete, with a total construction time exceeding 850 hours. Affiliated with Lourinhã Dinosaur Park, the project has a total investment of 2.7 million euros. As the core part of a 750-square-meter immersive LEGO exhibition hall, it is open to the public. The hall also includes themed exhibition areas such as “Star Wars” and “Pirate Bay,” as well as replicated models of world landmarks like the Taj Mahal and the Colosseum, using a total of about 5 million LEGO bricks.
The birth of this record not only showcases the creative charm of LEGO art but also becomes a new highlight of cultural and tourism integration in Portugal. This miniature LEGO city will be open to the public as a permanent exhibition, offering visitors a unique experience to feel the collision of creativity and culture up close.
